Bollywood actresses have to come under the scrutiny of the audience many a times for their focus on making a career in Bollywood, contrary to the society’s belief of a woman getting married and settling down. While many a woman gave up everything in life to become superstars, few chose to settle down with their partners even though they had a promising career in front of them. Here are a few:

Saira Banu: The ‘chatur naar’ from Padosan was one of the highest paid actresses of her time. She met and married Dilip Kumar, who is 22 years older than this beauty, and left her entire Bollywood career for him. She was 22 years old when she got married and quit films.

Neetu Singh: Mother of the current Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Singh was a child actress to went on to become a Bollywood leading lady in her life. She was only 14 years old when she started dating Rishi Kapoor, and got married at the age of 21! Soon after she got married, she stopped appearing in any films and retired from her career, rather too early we can say.

Mandakini: You might remember Mandakini from the iconic hit Ram Teri Ganga Maili, which put her in the list of A-list Bollywood actresses of her time. Amongst rumours of being linked to Dawood, she married a former Buddhist Monk, who was the famous Murphy Baby. While few of her movies released after marriage, she eventually gave up cinema and currently teaches Tibetan yoga in Mumbai.

Namrata Shirodkar: Namrata Shirodkar was not only a famous Bollywood actor, but was also Femina Miss India 1993 and even produced a few films. She is still remembered for her iconic roles in ‘Vaastav and Pride and Prejudice. She got married to the Tollywood star Mahesh Babu in 2005, and soon after we stopped seeing her in any movies.

Bhagyashree: Remember the quiet, soft spoken girl in Meine Pyar Kiya who won our hearts and made the entire nation cry along with her? That was Bhagyashree, who is now happily married and does not for a second regret her decision to choose to take care of her family over a successful bollywood career.

Gayatri Joshi: Gayatri Joshi had a dream debut in the Ashutosh Gawarikar directed Swades, opposite the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan. But we did not see her in any movies after that? That is because she got married to the Vikas Oberoi in 2005, Managing Director of the Oberoi Constructions company, and gave up a truly promising career in acting.

Twinkle Khanna: Even though Twinkle Khanna did not really become a superstar during her acting career, she was still a popular celebrity. After her last movie Love Ke Liye Saala Kuch Bhi Karega, she got married to Akshay Kumar, and ended her Bollywood Career. She is now a successful interior designer, a columnist and a writer.

Meenakshi Seshadri: Ghaayal, Damini and Hero are some of the most iconic Bollywood movies and Meenakshi Seshadri wowed the Indian audiences with her performance in each of them. Even though she was an established actress of her time, she gave up movies after getting married. She now resides in the US with her husband and two kids.

Nargis Dutt: Nargis made history with her powerful performance in one of the best Bollywood movies ever made: Mother India. Not only did that movie made Nargis one of the top actresses Bollywood has ever seen, but also made her fall in love with her co-actor Sunil Dutt, who saved her from a fire that broke on the sets by putting his own life in danger. She chose to get married to Sunil Dutt and gave up on her acting career.

Babita: An actress known for her beauty and talent, Babita got married to the superstar of his time Randhir Kapoor. While she gave up a creer in films right after that, she gave birth to and raised the two future leading ladies of Bollywood, Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.
