10 Talented Bollywood Actresses Who Chose Marriage Over A Promising Career

Bollywood actresses have to come under the scrutiny of the audience many a times for their focus on making a career in Bollywood, contrary to the society’s belief of a woman getting married and settling down. While many a woman gave up everything in life to become superstars, few chose to settle down with their partners even though they had a promising career in front of them. Here are a few:

Saira Banu: The ‘chatur naar’ from Padosan was one of the highest paid actresses of her time. She met and married Dilip Kumar, who is 22 years older than this beauty, and left her entire Bollywood career for him. She was 22 years old when she got married and quit films.

Neetu Singh: Mother of the current Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Singh was a child actress to went on to become a Bollywood leading lady in her life. She was only 14 years old when she started dating Rishi Kapoor, and got married at the age of 21! Soon after she got married, she stopped appearing in any films and retired from her career, rather too early we can say.

Mandakini: You might remember Mandakini from the iconic hit Ram Teri Ganga Maili, which put her in the list of A-list Bollywood actresses of her time. Amongst rumours of being linked to Dawood, she married a former Buddhist Monk, who was the famous Murphy Baby. While few of her movies released after marriage, she eventually gave up cinema and currently teaches Tibetan yoga in Mumbai.

Namrata Shirodkar: Namrata Shirodkar was not only a famous Bollywood actor, but was also Femina Miss India 1993 and even produced a few films. She is still remembered for her iconic roles in ‘Vaastav and Pride and Prejudice. She got married to the Tollywood star Mahesh Babu in 2005, and soon after we stopped seeing her in any movies.

Bhagyashree: Remember the quiet, soft spoken girl in Meine Pyar Kiya who won our hearts and made the entire nation cry along with her? That was Bhagyashree, who is now happily married and does not for a second regret her decision to choose to take care of her family over a successful bollywood career.

Gayatri Joshi: Gayatri Joshi had a dream debut in the Ashutosh Gawarikar directed Swades, opposite the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan. But we did not see her in any movies after that? That is because she got married to the Vikas Oberoi in 2005, Managing Director of the Oberoi Constructions company, and gave up a truly promising career in acting.

Twinkle Khanna: Even though Twinkle Khanna did not really become a superstar during her acting career, she was still a popular celebrity. After her last movie Love Ke Liye Saala Kuch Bhi Karega, she got married to Akshay Kumar, and ended her Bollywood Career. She is now a successful interior designer, a columnist and a writer.

Meenakshi Seshadri: Ghaayal, Damini and Hero are some of the most iconic Bollywood movies and Meenakshi Seshadri wowed the Indian audiences with her performance in each of them. Even though she was an established actress of her time, she gave up movies after getting married. She now resides in the US with her husband and two kids.

Nargis Dutt: Nargis made history with her powerful performance in one of the best Bollywood movies ever made: Mother India. Not only did that movie made Nargis one of the top actresses Bollywood has ever seen, but also made her fall in love with her co-actor Sunil Dutt, who saved her from a fire that broke on the sets by putting his own life in danger. She chose to get married to Sunil Dutt and gave up on her acting career.

Babita: An actress known for her beauty and talent, Babita got married to the superstar of his time Randhir Kapoor. While she gave up a creer in films right after that, she gave birth to and raised the two future leading ladies of Bollywood, Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.

“Bang Baaja Baaraat” showing us the real Indian issue and the hilarity it ensues

The web series “Bang Baaja Baaraat” by Y Films - the youth wing of Yash Raj Films - is a parody on an Indian wedding scenario and the stress that goes with it. Unlike the romantic atmosphere depicted in Bollywood, this show encapsulates the tense environment of Indian families, their invalid thoughts and actions, portrayed in a hilarious dialogue. Though shown as a series of episodes based on fictional characters and events, there’s a familiar feeling attached to a lot of the scenes that makes the show ‘personal’ in a lot of ways. Here’s listing those moments captured brilliantly by the makers, Anand Tiwari and Amritpal Bindra.

Love marriage: Explaining the concept of love marriage to your parents and then having your parents’ meet… The icing on the cake, in a situation like this, is when parents are brought up in different cultures. Modern versus traditional, a tie never made before, but are forced to comply based on their children’s wishes.

Explaining how you met: I guess it’s all right if you’ve actually met at a photo exhibition or at a friend’s place, but the web series shows the former reasons as excuses given by the couple to fight away them meeting on Tinder, the social platform for you know what.

Opposite poles attract: Families depicted in this series are Brahmin and Punjabi, two that rarely come together to form a unison in matrimony. Brahmins: the vegetarian, non-drinking, orthodox family versus Punjabi: the non-vegetarian, drinking, slightly open-minded family. Now imagine the concept of peace in India. Something to think about here.

Fights before marriage: We are used to blaming stress and commotion for the rampant couple fights prior to marriage that magically seem to quieten down post the ceremony. Ever thought of who’s to blame in bringing in this stress and commotion? The web series shows how conflicting thoughts and opinions give rise to unwanted topics that seemed to be swept under the rug until the parents arrived! Guess what happens next?

Bachelorette party: Ever a good idea to have your bachelorette party in the same hotel as your parents and in-laws?

Choreographed dance sequence: A tradition that originated from Bollywood movies, now part of every Indian wedding, is a must-have!

Photographer: The mistake you make when you walk into a wedding with a DSLR and happen to mention that you do this for a living. There goes the paid photographer, and you’re now granted the responsibility of clicking away instead of munching on those Indian sweets.

Responsibility to introduce your in-laws: It’s usually a hard task to remember the massive lineage of your in-laws, and being expected to know when asked requires a tough manoeuvre to jump out of.

In the end, love triumphs over everything else: This is the moral of the story, on television and in reality. There’s no running away from this hard fact. While the world stresses on your unison, to bring up every known indifference and narrow-minded complaint; while your soon-to-be-married impression goes down the drain, where you’re left thinking of backing away from it all; while you question the ethics of this practice and drive away your patience and love for your better half, it’s the bond that tied you together before all this chaos that eventually shines through.

What happens next? While we wait for season 2, the bond that’s righteously spoken of in the previous slide is somehow brought to question.

Hang Mioku

Hang Mioku was a beautiful Korean model whose obsession with silicone injected soft skin led to some serious trouble. Mioku was 28 when she had her first surgery, after which she moved to Japan and got addicted to it. Soon doctors refused to give her more injections because her face was already evidently bloating up, and because they thought she had a psychological condition. Plastic surgery addict Mioku didn’t stop there and started injecting cooking oil and other harmful substitutes in her skin. Later when several donors from around the country pitched in to help for her corrective surgery, more than 60kilos of filling was found by doctors in the first time.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay’s Hollywood career took a sharp U-turn after her serious drug addiction problems. In the meantime she also went under the knife in hopes of looking better and prettier, but just ended up ruining her face even more.

Megan Fox

Not all plastic surgeries end up badly. Hollywood Actress Megan Fox is a living example of that. Even though she denies going under the knife, it’s evident that she has got lip fillers, Botox, cheek augmentations and other such surgical procedures done on her.

Michael Jackson

Probably one of the most extreme plastic surgery cases of all times is that of the singing legend, Michael Jackson. It is believed that he underwent over 100 procedures to attain his ideal look. However, publicly he accepted getting a nose job done and nothing else.

Pete Burns

Vocalist and songwriter, Pete Burns had found the famous band ‘Dead or Alive’ in 1980. When all didn’t seem to be going well in his life, he found a new solace in plastic surgeries. He once admitted that even the knowledge of the possibility of his falling off because of all these procedures isn’t enough to stop him from getting more.

Donatella Versace

Donatella Versace is super creative and talent lady, but why did she choose to go under the knife? Nobody knows. Versace, who once had a pretty face, maintains that this is how she is taking good care of her skin and hair.
